Diving, snorkelling, golfing
are among the most popular activities today. And Indonesia
is blessed with some of the most extraordinary sites
in Asia for diving lovers and some of the most famed
golf courses in the world. It would be difficult to
summarize all the places where diving or golfing might
be possible as the choice is almost infinite!
Golf
Guests in Indonesia are spoilt with a great choice of
some 130 golf courses in the country. Jakarta alone
has within an hour drive some 30 Golf Courses available
! Playing golf in Indonesia can start as soon as going
out of a plane. Look for the famed Cengkareng Golf Club,
a championship standard, five minutes away by car from
Jakarta international airport. From Bali airport, the
first golf courses are also a mere 15 minutes drive
by car.
Golf experts name the Bali Golf and Country Club, one
of “Asia five best Golf Courses” by Fortune
Magazine and Golf Digest, a leading US specialist, names
the Taman Dayu Golf Club in Pasuruan in East Java one
of the best golf in the world because of its exceptional
location. Among some of the most spectacular golf clubs,
the Merapi Golf and Mountain Resort offers spectacular
view on the near-by volcano and Borobodur temple; the
Bandung Giri Gahana Golf and Country Club is considered
as one of the most beautiful in Indonesia due to its
spectacular location surrounded by mountains and hills
at 900 metres. In Bali, the Nirwana Bali Golf Club offers
breathtaking views on the Indian Ocean.
Diving and Surfing Resorts
Indonesia is blessed with a string of islands among
the most beautiful in the world. The best time of year
for diving is the dry season, normally from April to
October as the sea remains is mostly calm. Divers will
certainly be excited by the possibility of diving in
clear, rich waters without being harassed by hordes
of tourists.
World famous Bali stays high on the list. Most of the
diving paradise concentrate on the east coast of the
island in the areas of Padang Bai and Candi Dasa and
further north between Tulamben and Amed. On the eastern
coast, Mimpi Tulamben offers an incredible underwater
adventure with its beautiful coral garden and a coral
wall that plummets to 60m.
Next to Bali, Lombok’s Kuta Beach offers its unspoilt
white beaches with areas dedicated for surfing and windsurfing
activities. Further to the East, Komodo island gained
not only fame for its giant lizards but also for Lasa
island, a superb site for snorkeling with pristine corals,
near Komodo village. As East Indonesia is now seen as
a paradise for divers, it is expected that more facilities
will be developed over the next years to offer an unforgettable
experience for foreign tourists. Flores has already
extensive facilities to welcome divers. Sambolan kecil
with Labuan Bajo, the coral gardens of the 17-Islands-National
Park (Pulau Tujuhbelas)as well as the Maumere Bay are
popular duiving areas in Flores.
Another famous diving spot is in North Sulawesi not
far from Manado, the provincial capital city. Half an
hour away from the city, Bunaken National Park possesses
indeed one of the best preserved coral reef in the world.
International divers describe it as very spectacular
with its caves, gullies and cavern where a rich maritime
life prospers. Many resort hotels are available for
tourists in the immediate proximity to Bunaken diving
areas.
In Sumatra, the Mentawai islands (Siberut, Sipora, Pagai
Utara and Selatan) on the West Sumatra Coast are becoming
increasingly popular for surfing and diving activities.
30 km away from West Sumatra capital city Padang, Carokok
beach is surrounded by dozens of small islands with
Cubadak Beach, a resort ideal for windsurf.
More surprising for visitors, excellent diving and snorkelling
facilities are available a few km away from Jakarta.
The group of islands “Pulau Seribu”, north
to the capital, are home to coral reefs populated with
myriads of marine animals.
